One of the determining factors for the appearance or suppression of the characters that are written in our genetic code is nutrition. The importance of good nutrition for the mother (and consequently the fetus) during pregnancy has been recognized for many years, but our latest knowledge is many and impressive.<\/p>\n<p>Nutrition before conception. A woman&#8217;s health before conception affects her ability to conceive, the health of the newborn she will bring into the world, as well as her subsequent health. Her body is the environment in which conception will take place and the fetus will develop, and as a result, her nutrition before conception can positively or negatively affect this environment.<\/p>\n<p>Poor nutrition and lack of certain nutrients can reduce fertility in both women and men. Women can experience problems with their menstrual cycle.<\/p>\n<p>Weight gain during pregnancy. The rule that previously required pregnant women to gain 12.5 kg during pregnancy does not apply to obese women but to those with a normal weight. It has been shown that a weight gain of approximately 4 kg throughout pregnancy in an obese pregnant woman is associated with lower perinatal mortality, while for overweight women, weight gain should not exceed 6 kg.<\/p>\n<p>The extra weight in a normal pregnancy is the result of physiological processes that are specific to enhance fetal and maternal growth. In general, a normal weight gain for most healthy women is considered to be 11-15 kg, but modern recommendations determine the recommended variations depending on the weight, height and age of the pregnant woman.<\/p>\n<p>Energy requirements and nutrients. During pregnancy, the pregnant woman&#8217;s calorie needs increase. The additional amounts of energy required are necessary for the development of the fetus, placenta, amniotic fluid, uterus, breasts, as well as for the movement needs of the heavier mother.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, during this period the basal metabolic rate (BM) initially decreases and then increases by approximately 15-20%, which is believed to be due to the increase in muscle mass of the uterus, placenta and fetus, as well as the burden on respiratory and cardiac function. Calorie intake during pregnancy remains constant for the first trimester, increases by 340kcal per day for the second trimester and by 452kcal per day for the third trimester.<\/p>\n<p>There are four exceptions to this basic rule:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>obese women, who, with appropriate dietary guidance, can probably get by on fewer calories<\/li>\n<li>severely underweight women, who need more calories<\/li>\n<li>teenage women, who have increased needs for their own body, which is still developing, and to these must be added the caloric requirements of pregnancy, and finally,<\/li>\n<li>Women who are having multiple pregnancies should increase their calorie intake by approximately 450kcal per day in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pregnancy is the most important phase in the perpetuation of any species, and of course humans.
